You are careful one second and aggressive the next. Worrying about what others think may make your game inconsistent. Ben Hogan's key to concentrate was "to ignore the gallery and the other golfers, and to shut my mind against everything but my own game." If you concentrate completely on your game, this can help you to beat your fear. The way you play will improve because you are having more fun, are less keyed up, and are able to swing better. Why ruin the golf game for yourself? Find people to play with that enjoy the game. If you play golf with a perfectionist, this may not be very much fun. You may need to find more relaxed golfers to play and practice with. It is the theory of some psychologists that we become a composite of the five people that we are with the most. Is it necessary to have the approval of others? Is hitting a bad shot going to completely ruin your life? If you are concentrating on what others think, then you are not concentrating on your shot, the ball, your swing, or the basics. Keep your mind on the next shot and focus.Ī major problem for some golfers is that they are worried what others will think if they make a bad shot. There is no need to worry about why the ball went the way it did. If you can change your thinking, you can help your game. When you start to feel fearful, clear thinking is not possible. Clear thinking should be your main goal in playing golf. When a good player begins to have problems, they are usually mental in nature. Fear is not something that you should take along with you to the driving range. The lack of diversity and challenge should earn this game a one-way trip to the garage for further tuning and repair.Playing golf relaxed and confidently makes for a much better game than being frightened at the thought of the hazards. Regardless of the number of tracks and despite the fact there is a track design feature, this game gets boring fast. Once you get beyond the game's 3-D animations and into the racing action, Kyle Petty's No Fear Racing doesn't quite deliver the goods. Game modes include single race and season options, and a two-player split screen mode enables you to race against a friend.

On the plus side, the game features a custom track editor which allows you to lay every curve and place every road sign. Each straight-away, right turn, and left turn look exactly the same from track to track. There are 28 speedways featured, but apart from the differing backgrounds (sunny, night, foggy, rainy, etc.) the tracks become very monotonous. There are plenty of other accessories available for your car between races, but by concentrating solely on tire changes, nitros, and timely pit stops you can usually dominate the field.

However, instead of livening up the action, the nitros tend to make the races lopsided in favor of any human smart enough to stock up on the speed bursts. In an apparent effort to keep the game exciting, nitro speed bursts are included. The 24-bit cartridge has some fairly impressive 3-D car animations, while rock music and a screaming monster-truck-rally announcer accompany the action. The game is actually a cross between a NASCAR simulation and a Rock N' Roll Racing-style game. But while No Fear Racing may have a sleek outward appearance, there's really not much too it when you look under the hood. Richard Petty paved the way, so to speak, for his son Kyle, who has now entered the video game circuit with Kyle Petty's No Fear Racing for Super NES. You don't have to be a race fan to know that the name Petty is synonymous with racing. Some choppiness slightly impedes the flow of scenery that you pass, and a map during races would help, but overall this game looks like a winner. Big cars dominate the track and are supplemented by good visual details, such as sparks when you graze the wall. The graphics also help push this game to the front of the pack. The courses have banked turns, so you can effectively weave past opponents at high speed, and cars spin out and flip if you bump 'em right. Your cars really move, and they noticeably respond to customizations. Pushed along by solid controls, the gameplay is fast and exciting. This kind of versatility adds a creative dimension that's rare in the world of racing games.

You can literally build and save your own dream course, making it as straight or as curvy as you like, changing the weather conditions, and placing such objects as signs and snowmen wherever you want. These options, plus the two- player split-screen racing, are pretty standard, but the Custom Track feature is really amazing. Earn enough money with trophy finishes, and you can customize everything on your car from the engine to the tranny. Snow and night racing are just two of the challenges you'll encounter along the way. Buying more nitro Ls the most inexpensive way to quickly pump up your car's performance. If you like experiencing "turn terror", choose Tulsa, Las Vegas, or Darlington.
